A Festive Day Out at Eastwood High School

Festive outing for Mearns View Care Home Residents

At Mearns View Care Home, we’re always looking for opportunities to bring joy to our residents and strengthen our ties with the local community. This December, we had the pleasure of taking a group of residents to Eastwood High School to enjoy their annual Christmas concert – and what a fantastic day it turned out to be!

The outing began with a real buzz of excitement as our residents wrapped up warm and prepared for the short journey. The morning was crisp, and you could feel the festive spirit in the air as we headed off together in the minibus. Upon arrival, we were welcomed warmly by staff and students at Eastwood High School, who had gone out of their way to make us feel at home.

Before the concert began, we all enjoyed a lovely lunch in the school’s dining area. It was a chance for our residents to relax, have a good blether, and soak in the friendly, lively atmosphere. There were plenty of smiles and laughter as cups of tea were poured, sandwiches enjoyed, and conversations flowed easily – all while looking forward to the big show.

The highlight of the day, of course, was the Christmas concert itself. The students put on an absolutely wonderful performance, showcasing their talent, energy, and enthusiasm. From traditional carols to more modern pieces, the music filled the hall with festive cheer and brought smiles to every face. It was a real joy to see the pride and effort the young people had put into their performance – their singing and playing were simply brilliant. It was such a lovely concert. The young ones worked so hard, and it’s amazing to see the talent they have. It brought back lots of memories for our residents of when their own children performed in their school concerts.

Moments like this are so special. They bring back cherished memories and allow us all to share in something positive and uplifting. Intergenerational connections, like those we build through outings such as this, are incredibly valuable – not only for our residents, who love to see the younger generation thriving, but also for the students, who gain so much from sharing their time and talents.

Looking through the photos, you can see just how much everyone enjoyed themselves. Whether it was sitting with friends and enjoying a cuppa, proudly holding festive treats, or simply soaking up the music and laughter, the joy on our residents’ faces says it all. One resident was particularly delighted with a beautiful Christmas Fairy tin she received – a small gesture that made her day.

These kinds of outings are an important part of life at Mearns View Care Home. They give our residents the chance to stay connected with the wider community, enjoy a change of scenery, and create new memories together. Whether it’s a trip to a local school, an afternoon out for lunch, or a visit to a garden centre, we believe it’s vital to provide these opportunities to enrich the lives of the people we care for.

We’d like to say a big thank you to Eastwood High School for hosting us so warmly and for putting on such a fantastic concert. The students’ hard work and talent were a real credit to the school, and we left with full hearts and festive spirits.

As we headed back to Mearns View, there was plenty of chatter about the day’s highlights – with everyone agreeing that it had been a truly memorable outing. It’s days like these that remind us of the joy to be found in simple moments: good company, beautiful music, and the kindness of our community.
